The days of this book are so timely in my life right now! Praise God, and thank you Chris for writing this book, I cannot wait to share it with my future clients. I am in graduate school and last semester was my first semester at the school. I got good grades, well I got excellent grades, but I was not really learning that much. Thtough my endless hours of reading and studying book after book and scholarly article after scholarly article, I had failed to maintain and really learn the material I was supposed to be learning. I felt very down on myself for that the entire winter break. I kept asking myslef “What is wrong with you? Why are you not saturating yourself in this information? You love what you are studying, Get with the program!” Today I learned that I simply need to take my time with the material. I need to have my computer ready to look up something on the internet when I do not fully understnad it.I need to give my paddion time to develop.
I had to stop patronizing myself and just learn from what I was doing. I consider this to be a recent success in my life, one that came from a failure that I had focused too much energy on. I would not have recognized it as such had I not read this book!

Victory

I love the sentence on p. 51 that states, “Opposition in one’s life is necessary for victory.” If we never have challenges, how will we grow? If we don’t have anything to fight for or fight against, how meaningless life would be?

While thinking of some of the oppositions in my life that I have faced, I realized that many of my strongest oppositions became some of my greatest victories. I wouldn’t know the sweet taste of victory if I didn’t fight to overcome. This chapter has given me a new appreciate for victory and the road of overcoming.

Conquering Failure

There is a fear in me that make me think I cannot live up to the responsibility of going to the next level. I fail to understand the truth about victories and defeats. I tell myself that I cannot go down a certain road because of my past failures. My fear is that I’m ultimately going to end up in the same place that I tried not to go. So now I’m motionless. I constantly tell myself, “I should not be the one that makes this decision.”

Running a ministry and being afraid to take risks is hindering the growth of the organization. I am at the crossroads of my life, both spiritually and professionally. At the junction is the potential of falling back into a slump or reaching new heights and levels. I tell myself that I was wrong before. Even though I’ve done so many things right since then, I don’t want to take the risk of making a bad decision again.

I am beginning to understand that mistakes are rectifiable and I can bounce back from a fall. I am letting myself out of the corner of life and accepting my potential to succeed. I am starting not to look for ways to fail and acknowledging my ability. We can live a life that uses all our experience to not only help ourselves but to help other people. We have to find the determination to conquer failure and stop being afraid to fall. I have to face the failure in order to conquer the failure.
